Communication shapes our engagement with the world. Knowledge and understanding of communication and strong communication skills allow us to create and maintain effective relationships, critically engage with the culture, and encourages creative self-expression.

The Communication Department faculty have been recognized with several awards, including the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship, Alumni Faculty Appreciation Award, and the Outstanding Registered Student Organization (RSO) Advisor Award. Faculty have won top research and leadership awards from organizations such as National Communication Association and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Media production classes are held in the state-of-the-art Integrated Media Center (IMC). At 18,500 square-feet, the IMC may be the most technologically advanced facility of its kind at any Maryland higher education institution. The center features a 3,000 square-foot high definition digital video production studio and a 24-track audio recording studio. These studios are supported by 15 video editing suites and five audio editing suites. Our Journalism Lab features industry standard software including Adobe, Avid and the Associated Press Newsroom. Our Public Relations Classroom is a professional environment built for collaboration and project planning.
Communication Major Concentrations
At SU, students may complete the communication major in one of five unique ways to express their thoughts and views.
Communication, B.A./Public Communication, M.A. Accelerated Master's Program
黑料网 offers students the opportunity to earn a combined B.A. in communication and an M.A. in public communication in just five years. Admitted SU undergraduate communication students can adopt the accelerated master’s program as their major once conditional prerequisites are met. Once admitted to the combined B.S./M.A. program, students work concurrently to complete the degrees following the requirements.
